Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by Daniel H. Pink

Working on the theory that a new “operating system” is now in effect, Daniel Pink challenges old ways of thinking about motivation and suggests some new ideas on not only how, by why new motivators must be taken into account in today’s society.

Thinking of individuals as Type I and Type X, (Intrinsically motivated as opposed to Extrinsically motivated), gives a better understanding into WHY particular motivators are successful or not.

In addition to writing in a way that’s easy to understand, the author includes a “Toolkit” in the second half of the book for employees and leaders to improve their strategies for motivating themselves as well as those around them.

I recommend this book, as much for the “Toolkit” as for the discussion that precedes it.”
